A Historic Landmark in South Oak Bay
‘LANGDALE HOUSE’ formally known as the ‘BLEAKNEY HOUSE’ was originally the home of Arthur Stuart Bleakney Esquire who, at that time, was the Canadian Trade Commissioner in Ottawa. Designed by architect Hubert Savage the 1936 ‘Tudor Revival’ style uses asymmetrical facades, irregular rooflines, bay windows and a projecting front entrance to create a distinctive building. The prominent corner location of the house, set on a .38 acre ultimately private Butchart Garden like landscaped property, make it one of the most significant historic landmarks in south Oak Bay.
